Advent Day 3 – Prince of Peace
DSBC
Isaiah 9:6
Janys B.

… and His name shall be called
Wonderful, Counselor,
Mighty God,Everlasting Father,
Prince of Peace.

– Isaiah 9:6b

When you’re in trouble, whether in a nation or a family, it’s reassuring to remember that you have a Prince, a Commander in Chief, who’s reigning supreme over your circumstances. Even if you’re not in any dire straits at the moment, given time, you will be because you have an enemy working against you. He’s your adversary, but he’s defeated.

Jesus’ name is Prince of Peace due to the truth that He came the first time to offer Himself as a sacrifice for your sin; that means you have shalom, or wholeness in Christ. He fought the heavenly battle for your soul, and now he desires that you live in that shalom-peace every day. Biblically, peace is not simply tranquility, although it is, it’s also experiencing wholeness in your body, soul, and finally, and most importantly, in your spirit. Health is vital (body), emotions in check is crucial (soul), and experiencing life in Christ (spirit) is essential.

Sometimes it’s hard to believe that the newborn baby we celebrate this Christmas is also the Sovereign, the King, and the Prince ruling with justice over the world. However, that truth remains secure; you just have to believe it. As you remain in that posture of waiting, remembering He’s returning, the second advent, He’ll prove to the entire world He’s the King of kings and Lord of lords as He takes His place in the renewed kingdom. When you sing ‘O come, O come, Immanuel’ this advent season, keep in mind that you’re inviting His return and anxiously waiting for it.
