Fostering Healing, Disrupting Complacency
DSBC is committed to cultivating a loving community that disrupts complacency and fosters healing for the broken… which is all of us.
A LOVING COMMUNITY
Though we all come from different walks of life, perspectives and backgrounds ,we are committed to uniting together in love. Jesus told us that people would know that we are his followers by the way that we love one another (see John 13:35).
THAT DISTRUPTS COMPLACENCY
One ancient Christian said that ‘all of life is repentance.’ A life of turning from our own way towards God’s way of living, thinking and acting. Repentance often starts with disruption, encountering a circumstance, conversation or thought that, like smelling-salts, jolts us awake to the reality that God wants us to discover. As a church family, we are committed to pursuing Jesus-centered conversations that disrupt areas of complacency in our lives. This involves engaging the scriptures and having conversations about issues like race, immigration, gender & sexuality, class, power & violence, government and politics and many more.
FOSTERS HEALING FOR THE BROKEN, WHICH IS ALL OF US.
As we engage in conversations that disrupt complacency, we do so while striving to focus on our own growth and living the fruit of the Spirit (see The Rules of the Road), seeking to learn from each other and grow. As a church family, we strive to foster safe, Jesus-centered, Holy Spirit empowered spaces for healing, unity and reconciliation. When we engage in peaceful, gracious, just, reconciling conversations about ‘divisive’ issues, we put the Kingdom of God on display in our fractured city.
