About Nathan Whitchurch
Nathan Whitchurch was raised on the coast of rural Northern California where his parents were involved members of a local church. Both he and his younger sister attended a small Christian elementary school where the Bible was taught in class each day. Nathan stopped attending church while attending public high school, but during his senior year a small group of his peers invited him to read through Rick Warren’s Purpose Driven Life. It was through and in community with that group that he began to pursue his relationship with Jesus in earnest.
Nathan moved south from his small town to study mechanical engineering at the University of Southern California in central Los Angeles. He was involved in Campus Crusade for Christ and a Christian fraternity. The summer after his freshman year, he spent seven weeks as a missionary with Campus Crusade on the “East Asia” summer project. While working as a counselor at an all boys Christian summer camp in upstate New York, Nathan was providentially connected with a job opportunity in Phoenix, and on graduating from college December 2007 he packed his belongings in a (small) U-Haul and moved to Phoenix to begin a career in engineering. A brief Google search for local churches brought Nathan to the Desert Springs website, and he began attending the Sunday evening services in early 2008 where he met his wife, Katie. They were married in 2010, and now have a two-year-old son, Hudson, who is their pride and joy.
Nathan has been involved in various facets of life at Desert Springs. He enjoys working behind the scenes to help aspects of the ministry function smoothly and has worked with a young men’s ministry and the high school youth group. Nathan and his wife currently host a missional community that meets weekly at their home. Several summers ago, they traveled to Africa with the Impact Uganda team. You will likely also see Nathan in the tech booth on Sunday mornings.
